Maitland Aquatics Centre Melissa Sweeney

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Roads, and Minister for Regional Transport)—Congratulations to Maitland Aquatics Centre staff who were nominated in key awards at the recent Royal Life Saving Awards. The national awards were held in Sydney with a staggering 66 finalists across 14 categories being recognised. The Aquas, as the awards are known, are designed to honour excellence across the sector, from lifesaving sport to leadership and cultural inclusion. Maitland Aquatic Centre staff member Melissa Sweeney who won Pool Lifeguard of the Year for her proactive leadership, lifesaving skill and dedication to safety, beating a field of 24 finalists. Another finalist from Maitland was Aquatics officer Kathleen Weldon who was a finalist for Swim Teacher of the Year. The larger team at the Maitland Aquatic Centre also made the finals for Excellence in Training and Education. Congratulations to Melissa and all the Centre staff for their recognition at the Aquas.
