Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland)—I rise to acknowledge the service of Professor Mike Calford, the outgoing Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) director, for his selfless dedication to the organisation. Coming out of retirement during the unprecedented challenges of COVID-19, Professor Calford stepped up when he was most needed. Mike's dedication to and leadership of the HMRI has been absolutely outstanding. Mike has left with an incredible legacy of achievements and the institute is in an even stronger position as a result of his hard work and dedication. Mike not only had a deep connection to the organisation and the work that it supported, but has enhanced its connections with the University of Newcastle and Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD). His stewardship over both periods and his long-term involvement has been very appreciated by the community. Mike is keen to enjoy his well-earned semi-retirement and his other commitments to education and research, so I wish him all the best for the future.
