Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland)—I congratulate the East Maitland War Memorial and Rest Park Land Managers as part of the East Maitland sub-Branch of the RSL who were recently awarded $10,284 under the 2021 Community Building Partnership Program. This grant will allow the organisation to improve energy management, reducing costs and using renewable energies. The memorials at Rest Park and at East Maitland are well known and highly valued within the Maitland community for commemorative services on Anzac Day. But each and every day they stand to call us to remember the selflessness and sacrifice of those who were killed and wounded during wars. They memorialise our local folk who have faced the horrors of war so that we did not have to experience them on our land. And they provide a safe space for returned service personnel to support each other and their families. I congratulate the East Maitland sub-Branch of the RSL for this recognition of their need and of their service, and I commend them for their ongoing work to preserve these community monuments and facilities that are so vital to so many within our community.
