Carrie's Place

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Roads, and Minister for Regional Transport)—It is a testament to the extraordinary work of Carrie's Place that they are celebrating the recent receipt of a $120,000 grant from the Commonwealth Bank, funding that will directly assist more than 100 women escaping domestic and family violence. Carrie's Place originally applied for a $20,000 grant to help provide qualified childcare for women attending group programs. To their astonishment, they were surprised with an additional $100,000, a gift that CEO Jayne Clowes described as "a game changer." This funding will allow Carrie's Place to partner with Tilly's Play and Development to provide professional educators for three years, breaking down one of the most significant barriers to participation in group work: lack of childcare. These programs offer vital support in understanding domestic violence and fostering healing, often leading to increased self-esteem and reduced social isolation. I commend CEO Jayne Clowes, the entire Carrie's Place team, and CommBank's Jenny Jackson for her nomination. This partnership is a shining example of what can be achieved when community and compassion come together.
