Anne Kelly
Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—Anne Kelly has been running the Telarah Public School's Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program since it first began 10 years ago. Anne is passionate about teaching kids about food and new life skills. With more than 500 students participating, the program is an important part of the school curriculum. Anne believes that this program is incredibly beneficial for the students in their everyday lives. By learning about these programs these young children are learning about the environment around them and what kind of food is healthy for their bodies. The program is open to everyone and incorporates fresh ingredients from the school vegetable garden. With fresh ingredients becoming more expensive, many children have not had the opportunity to cook with these at home. During a time of increasing prices in fresh food, where buying processed foods is cheaper Anne finds joy in demonstrating to children healthier food options. The skills being taught are already being put into practice by the students. Some children, not even knowing how to use a tea towel, are now inviting other kids over to feed them a meal they have made. Thank you, Anne, for showing these students a fresher tomorrow.
