Transport for NSW is hiring over 100 apprentices and trainees to work on major projects across the state and promote job opportunities in the regions.

Applications are now open until midnight on 27 August as part of the Transport for NSW Regional and Outer Metropolitan Apprentice and Trainee Programs.

In 2024 there are opportunities available across 11 disciplines, including civil construction, heavy diesel mechanics, bridge construction, electrical, painting and blasting, business administration, project management, marketing and communications, finance and safety, environment and quality and metal fabricating.

Last year,74 per cent of apprentices and trainees went on to secure permanent employment at Transport for NSW.

Acting Minister for Regional Transport and Roads John Graham said:

“This is a big investment in people. These positions are designed to kick-start careers for school leavers and anyone looking to enter the workforce, providing them with valuable skills, on the job training and a nationally recognised qualification.

“Regional jobs matter, and it’s essential we attract and develop the next generation of skilled workers to keep the state moving.

“Over the last few months we held six industry days across regional NSW to engage with local high schools and promote the various entry level pathways available at Transport.

“These industry days allowed students in years 10, 11 and 12 to get hands on experience and learn about the variety of roles which they can now apply for.”

Transport for NSW Director of Maintenance & Delivery John Soars said:

“Apprentices and trainees play a major part in maintaining vital regional assets across our network and are critical in building a skills legacy to meet the future needs of New South Wales.

“These roles will not only stimulate career pathways in the bush but create a pipeline of meaningful work into the future.

“We encourage diversity and want to give everyone the chance to work in the public service, as well as improve Aboriginal and female representation across Transport.

“Last year’s intake saw 47 per cent of positions filled by females while Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation is currently at 20 per cent, and we’re eager to build on this.”
