Media Release - Volunteering Awards Nominations Close Friday

09 July 2018

Maitland community groups are being reminded to nominate their hardworking volunteers for the 2018 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards.
Member for Maitland Jenny Aitchison is encouraging all local organisations to lodge their entry forms before the closing date of Friday 13th July 2018.
Age is no barrier with the seven categories seeking nominations for awards to recognise the Young Volunteer of the Year, Senior Volunteer of the Year and the Volunteer Team of the Year.
This annual event is organised by The Centre for Volunteering to celebrate the amazing commitment and achievements volunteers make in our communities and to thank them for their efforts.
Volunteers can be found right across Maitland in charity shops, at the sporting arena to those who help in local schools and their contribution to our community is priceless.
More information on the awards is available at www.volunteering.com.au/volunteer-awards.
Quotes attributable to Member for Maitland Jenny Aitchison
“We owe a lot to those who selflessly give up their time for the benefit of others. The NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards is a great opportunity for Maitland to say thank you to our volunteers. ”
“Where would we be without the volunteers who form the organising committee of our clubs or group and those who do the fundraising. Thankfully Maitland has volunteers who make that effort and they are the backbone of our society.”
“Their uniform can be as varied as aprons and overalls. The jobs as diverse as providing assistance to someone in need or lending an ear to a child learning to read, but the thing they all have in common is that they’re volunteers and they make our Maitland community stronger.”
