MEDIA RELEASE - STEP FORWARD FOR EAST NOWRA SUB ARTERIAL PROJECT

A much-needed alternative connection between the Nowra CBD and East Nowra is a step closer with planning now under way.

The Minns Labor Government has allocated $12 million from the $334 million Regional Roads Fund to plan and start early work on the East Nowra Sub Arterial (ENSA) Road Project.

The sub-arterial road will connect Greenwell Point Road in the vicinity of Old Southern Road to the Princes Highway at North Street.

Transport for NSW is now working through the grant process with Shoalhaven City Council, who will continue to progress the project.

The next steps will then involve assessing the project’s connection to the state road network, and ensuring it aligns with planning also underway for the Nowra Bypass.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Jenny Aitchison:

“This is part of the Minns Labor Government’s commitment to provide a safer Princes Highway, reduce congestion, and help make the growing community of the Nowra region a better place to live, work, study and visit.

“The Shoalhaven community and visitors to the area will all benefit from reduced travel times along the highway and surrounding roads when this important project is delivered.”

Quotes attributable to Member for South Coast Liza Butler:

“I am delighted to see the Minns Labor Government provide funding for this important project.

“Residents and business owners alike have told me that it is imperative this work begin while we continue planning for the Nowra Bypass.

“The bypass alone will not solve Nowra’s traffic congestion. ENSA will provide much needed relief for locals and tourists travelling from Nowra to the coastal villages of Culburra, Callala, and Greenwell Point, while the Nowra Bypass will provide relief for traffic moving further south of Nowra.

“I have listened to the community and local businesses, and this is their number one priority to relieve pressure along Kalendar Street, Princes Highway and reduce congestion through the Nowra CBD. I am proud to be part of a government that is listening to the needs of our community and planning for our future.

Quotes attributable to Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley:

“The ENSA project was initiated by Shoalhaven City Council as a key contributor to reducing traffic congestion through Nowra. Council has supported the project through development of concept designs, completion of initial geotechnical and surveying work, and acquisition of much of the land for the proposed road.

“This is a key project for unlocking current congestion. The project will deliver many benefits for our community including removing around 4000 vehicles a day from the highway, improving traffic flow and reducing congestion through the Nowra CBD.
