JENNY AITCHISON
MINISTER FOR REGIONAL TRANSPORT AND ROADS

MEDIA RELEASE - MAJOR SAFETY INVESTMENT IN MITCHELL HIGHWAY BETWEEN DUBBO AND NARROMINE

Two significant upgrades planned for the Mitchell Highway will deliver smoother, safer journeys for all road users travelling between Dubbo and Narromine in the state’s west.

The Minns Labor Government is funding almost $11.093 million worth of safety upgrades through its Towards Zero program addressing one of the key routes in western NSW.

The two projects planned at Minore and Brummagen Curve have been identified as vital for boosting the efficiency and safety of the Mitchell Highway to the west of Dubbo.

The work at Minore, just west of the new Mylangra overtaking lanes, will include widening and improving up to two kilometres of road pavement, alongside drainage work and vegetation removal.

The Brummagen Curve project includes curve realignment to improve safety for all road users, shoulder widening, wide centre lines to reduce the risk of head-on collisions, and some vegetation removal on the roadside.

Some land acquisition will be required to complete this work, and consultation with landholders is already underway.

Work will start on the Minore project in late November. Transport for NSW will advise the community of key dates and traffic impacts ahead of work starting.

Minister for Regional Roads and Transport Jenny Aitchison said:

“The Mitchell Highway between Dubbo and Narromine carries thousands of locals, tourists and freight operators daily.

“These upgrades will help ensure all road users reach their destinations safely.

“Safety is our number one priority on all state roads and highways for the Minns Labor Government. The funding through these programs reflects the NSW Government’s goal of achieving zero road deaths on the NSW road network.

“The Towards Zero Safer Road program delivers important road infrastructure on the key routes most regularly used by motorists across the state.”

Stephen Lawrence, Labor Duty MLC for Dubbo said:

“Investment in road safety is always welcomed and particularly on this key section of the Central West’s road network.

“The work at Minore is scheduled to start in November and will be funded by a $5.999 million grant through Towards Zero and the work at Brummagen Curve has received $5.094 million of funding through Towards Zero.”

More information on Towards Zero is available on the Transport for NSW website.
