Media Release - Maitland, Let's Celebrate a Milestone for Women

02 November 2018

Maitland MP and acting Shadow Minister for Women Jenny Aitchison is calling for local event applications to be lodged to celebrate the inaugural NSW Women’s Week.
Grant applications are now open for organisations that would like to hold events during the week of March 3-9, 2019.
Charities, not-for-profit groups, companies limited by guarantee and local government are among those eligible to apply with up to $1000 for small scale events while larger scale activities can access up to $5000.
Events must promote one of the three priorities for women including:
• Economic opportunity and advancement – such as celebrating and promoting women’s financial wellbeing and security;
• Health and wellbeing – celebrating, promoting and supporting a holistic approach to women’s health across their lifespan; or,
• Participation and empowerment – including access to information and building confidence using diverse representation of women and girls including Aboriginal women and girls and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
Grant funding can be used for the direct costs of the event or activity including promotion, entertainment, catering, venue hire and transport for participants.
Applications for grants close at 5pm Monday 12 November 2018 with successful recipients to be notified of the outcome in late November.
Quotes attributable to Acting Shadow Minister for Women and Member for Maitland Jenny Aitchison:
“Next year is shaping up as an important one for women in New South Wales. The opening week of March will be momentous because for the first time we will have a whole week focussed on women and our issues that need to be addressed.”
“I encourage women across Maitland to think of ways they would like to celebrate the inaugural NSW Women’s Week and make a grant application. We need to look for opportunities to focus on issues like participation and empowerment, our health and wellbeing and importantly economic opportunities and advancement.”
