Businesses across Maitland are being encouraged to join the fight against COVID-19 and start producing much-needed medical equipment for NSW.
Member for Maitland Jenny Aitchison said the unprecedented global demand on much-needed medical supplies had seen traditional suppliers now unable to fill urgent orders to service NSW.
“Hand sanitiser, hand wash soap, gloves, cleaning products, protective clothing, masks, eyewear and paper products are now in such high demand,” Ms Aitchison said.
“I’ve had many people, both manufacturers and consumers, come forward suggesting that the Government look to existing manufacturers to expand their product lines in response to the need of the pandemic.
“Just last week we saw a great story about Maitland business owner Chris Ackland from the Sign Shop designing a Perspex customer service shield to help small businesses to protect their staff and customers to remain compliant with social distancing regulations.
“I’m pleased to see the NSW Government is now calling on local businesses in Maitland and across the state to convert their production lines to make these products to fill other medical gaps.
The products required urgently include:
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Handwash soap
  • Gloves
  • Cleaning products
  • Protective clothing
  • Masks
  • Eyewear
  • Paper products
Ms Aitchison said this was also a great way for businesses who may be seeing a downturn in business due to COVID-19 to adapt and remain strong during these uncertain times.
“This is a great way for business to diversify and keep as many workers in a job as possible,” Ms Aitchison said.
Businesses who are able to join the fight against COVID-19 are urged to register their interest at https://preview.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/call-for-local-manufacturing-of-medical-supplies
