Vaccination Appointment Update - 20 September

On Monday I had a update come through from the Newcastle & Hunter Valley Pharmacists Association, regarding the Pharmacy Vaccine roll-out. They have asked that the following details be passed on to clear up some misinformation currently circulating about pharmacies and vaccines available to them.

  • Pharmacies have not, and will not be receiving Pfizer. Moderna is also an mRNA vaccine, at least as effective as Pfizer. Stock HAS NOT YET arrived in Pharmacies and will not until weeks end. Only a third of vaccinating Pharmacies are in the first group that will receive the vaccine. The second and third groups will receive stock in the following two weeks. Pharmacies are only being allocated 100 vaccines per week at this stage so unfortunately we will have to be patient. Supplies do ramp up quickly though. Moderna is only for those 12 to 59 years of age. For 60 and over, Astra Zeneca is the preferred vaccine, is very effective and very safe for this age group.

  • Pharmacists and their staff ask that you please refer to websites and social media sites, to see if they have access, before phoning Pharmacies. Pharmacies are fielding hundreds of calls per day, placing extraordinary pressure on Pharmacy staff.

  • Most Pharmacies are now, or will soon be able to take bookings online. Websites and social media will have links to the booking system.

  • Here is a list of some of the locations in Maitland offering COVID-19 Vaccinations https://www.jennyaitchison.com.au/maitlandvaccinationloca...

I know the roll-out of COVID19 vaccinations has been confusing and frustrating for many. I know many are struggling to find appointments in our area, however it is expected that in the coming weeks more vaccination appointments will become available to those who need them in Maitland.
