MEDIA RELEASE - Helping Maitland Saints bounce back

Maitland MP Jenny Aitchison recently visited the Saints at one of their girls’ training sessions and delivered hand sanitiser to replace bottles which were destroyed during the break-in at the clubhouse last week.

With the start of the delayed season just weeks away, the Maitland Saints AFL Club suffered a devastating blow when its clubhouse was ransacked; its new-season uniforms stolen and thousands of dollars’ worth of chemicals required for COVIDSafe operations dumped onto the floor.

Among the vandalised items were products purchased to keep players’ and officials’ hands sanitised during training and competition, and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“I was pleased to be able to give the Saints something to help towards keeping players and officials safe,” Ms Aitchison said.

“People should remain vigilant about hand washing and social distancing to stop the transmission of COVID-19 and seasonal influenza.”

The Saints have returned to training in line with social distancing requirements under the Public Health Orders.

The bottles were provided by NSW Health as part of the annual campaign to encourage better hand hygiene practises to reduce the incidence of

influenza. This initiative is particularly important this year, with the onset of COVID-19.
