On Friday evening I joined with the Maitland Labor Councillors and Labor’s Candidate for Paterson, Meryl Swanson, to speak with residents of Maitland who are concerned with the NSW Government’s proposed merger between Maitland City Council and Dungog Shire Council.
Many people are concerned that they have felt the strain of Maitland’s seven year rate rise, but a merger could mean the extra money will be funnelled to the Dungog area instead of improving services in Maitland.
There is a lot of concern about how the Baird Government has gone about this proposal.
Last week I also launched a petition calling on the NSW Parliament to discontinue the proposed merger.
I would encourage all Maitland residents who are opposed to the merger to contact my office to sign the petition.
