MP GEARS UP FOR ANNUAL ‘IT’S IN THE BAG’ CAMPAIGN

Member for Maitland and Shadow Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, Jenny Aitchison, has again registered as a community collection point for Share the Dignity’s annual Christmas Campaign ‘It’s in the Bag’.

‘It’s in the Bag’ is an initiative that encourages people to fill an old handbag they have at home with sanitary, beauty and hygiene products to be handed out as a special gift to local women in need this Christmas.

Last year’s response was incredibly supported with over 200 handbags donated by Maitland residents and community groups. Historically the Christmas period sees a surge in domestic violence rates, and women often put themselves last at this time of year. The campaign is designed to give them a tangible sign that the community cares about them.

The campaign runs from Friday 16 November through to Sunday 2 December. Donations can be dropped to the Maitland Electorate office located at 2/12 Elgin Street Maitland, Monday to Friday during business hours.

For more information on the campaign and to access a list of recommended products to include in each handbag please visit www.sharethedignity.com.au
