Youth Week in Maitland


Youth Week begins tomorrow and there are some really innovative and entertaining activities available for Maitland’s young people over the next week.

1. Sun Street Festival

Address: Sun Street Studios, High Street, Maitland

The music and arts festival will be held at Sun Street Studios, a great music performance space in central Maitland, which will feature both indoor and outdoor stages to showcase a wide range of local bands and artists.

Youth Night Markets will be run by young people selling products and artworks that they have created. Other entertainment and activities include; a dance comp, DJ workshops, creative arts exhibition by local young people, comedy acts and roving circus performers.

Aboriginal art workshops will provide young people with the opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal culture, and to develop creative techniques to express themselves and share story through art.

The Sun Street Festival is inclusive of all young people, and is a drug and alcohol free event.

2. UP&UP Street Art Workshops

Event Date: Friday, 8 April, 2016

UP&UP Graffiti Workshop at Sun Street Studios

11.00am – 2.00pm: Participants will have the opportunity to be involved in creating a large street art mural. Through this workshop, young people will learn a range of graffiti art techniques – from the design phase through to creating the artwork.

UP&UP Street Art Workshop at Sun Street Festival

4.00pm – 10.00pm: Young people will have the opportunity to create their own works of street art on recycled CDs and vinyl records using paint pens.

The workshops are inclusive of all young people and abilities!

3. Silent Disco with Playground Sounds!

Playground Sounds is a Silent Disco and they’re coming to headspace Maitland!

Come along for a night of dancing, activities, pool comps and a BBQ! And the best thing is the whole night is FREE!

4. Groovin & Moovin in Maitland

Event Date: Friday, 15 April, 2016 Event Time: 6.00pm - 10.00pm Contact: 4941 8100

Address: East Maitland Bowling Club

House With No Steps in partnership with local young people are holding the Groovin & Moovin in Maitland event, at East Maitland Bowling Club. A night of fun and dance for young people of all ages and abilities, and their friends and families.

5. One Night Without A Home – Youth Homelessness Matters Day

Address: Mindaribba Local Aboriginal Land Council, Metford

Mindaribba Local Aboriginal Land Council is hosting the ‘One Night Without A Home’ sleep over to raise awareness of young people experiencing homelessness.

All young people are invited to participate in fun activities, a movie night, Yarning Circle and sleep over.
