Maitland Blacks receive much needed funding
I was so pleased to be able to announce yesterday that Maitland Rugby Union Club has been successful in their application for CBP funding.
The $70,000 they have received will be used to upgrade an electricity transformer at Marcellin Park, thus ensuring lighting at the ground will improve in time for the start of next season.
The Maitland Rugby Union Club has had a number of significant setbacks this year, with the loss of one of my dear friends Mr Trevor Holden, as well as the significant injury to Dom Punch. On speaking to the President of the Club, Ben Emmett, to inform him that the project was funded, he was very pleased to hear such good news.
Problems with the transformer have meant that lighting for the playing fields and car park has been inadequate.
Poor lighting at the park meant junior teams had to finish training before nightfall during the 2015 season.
Thanks to President, Ben Emmett, juniors, Thomas Heffron and Campbell Thomson, and other Blacks representatives who joined me yesterday to make the announcement.
Special mention must go to The Maitland Mercury for capturing the moment.
