I have been raising the issue of the significant pressure on Gillieston Public School’s infrastructure due to the surrounding rapidly growing housing developments for a number of years now.

In 2022 I was successful in getting Gillieston Public School included in the government inquiry looking into the Planning and delivery of school infrastructure in New South Wales. The committee of this inquiry visited the school at the beginning of June, 2022 which has seen plans put in place to address significant issues such as no town sewer services and secure school fencing.

I have also been successful in getting $1.7million included in the 2022-23 budget for a redevelopment of the school, however plans for what this redevelopment will include are still unclear from the NSW Government.

Numerous requests have been made to have the school upgraded from a 19th century schoolhouse surrounded by demountable buildings to a 21st century learning centre of excellence.
